On tour in a Trabi
Some think they are cute. Others want them off the streets.
We are talking about the four-wheeled symbol of German reunification - the Trabant.
It used to take up to 15 years before a brand-new Trabant was finally delivered. The Trabi, with its duroplast (plastic) body, was so eagerly sought after that it was given affectionate nicknames such as "Rennpappe" (racing cardboard) or "Asphaltblas" (asphalt bubble).
Even today the indestructible double-stroke engines are almost in short supply again, because in recent years the Trabi has become a sought-after cult object.
